PoochMate is a standing example to show us all how risk and passion beget success. PoochMate is the brainchild of founder Preeti Sood.Â Preeti was working in the banking and insurance sector for the last 15 years, and the thought of doing something for animals (dogs in particular) was always at the back of her mind. She has been an animal lover ever since she can remember. The pet care market is booming, and there is a shift from being mere pet owners to pet parents among people nowadays. They recognized the need for professional dog grooming salons in the city. Preeti had been taking her dogs to a lot of grooming centres only to be disappointed with the hygiene conditions, quality of equipment and training of the staff. Thatâ€™s when the idea struck her mind.
She went to London in 2014, and underwent a professional course, recognised by City & Guilds, London UK. Armed with the knowledge, she decided to set up her first salon in the city. Her determination to provide better services to the four legged furry mates coupled with the constant need for grooming of pets and the lack of professional, hygienic and personalized services in the field led Preeti to take the plunge.
When the bug bites you, there is no turning back. She came back from her course and started looking at locations. Almost as if it was destined for her, she got the location, set up and she imported the equipment quickly.
PoochMate currently runs a dog grooming salon and spa at Sainik farms, New Delhi, and boasts of 18% monthly growth in the customer base. Preeti manages the salon herself and is personally involved in every grooming service! They have recently launched their own brand of dog accessories, which are currently sold at the salon & store, and their new e-commerce website. The one vision that drives all their business decisions is to turn pet â€œOwners” to pet “Parentsâ€.
Currently, PoochMate is a self-funded business. As this venture emerged out of sheer passion and love for the canines, the founder put in all her savings to ensure there was no compromise on the quality of equipment, and products being used at the spa.Â PoochMate is a small team with two assistants helping Preeti in all grooming procedures. They are now planning to expand both their salon and store with plans such as opening a second salon later this year, expanding on their retail offerings and focussing on the e-commerce business in pipeline.
Keeping in mind the care required to give quality care for all the pets, the spa operates by appointment only. They take appointments online, through the phone and social media. The target market is pet-parents living in Delhi/NCR at the moment for the grooming business, while PoochMate Retail now has a pan-India presence.
Traction is an oft-used tool to measure any venture’s success and in a short span of one year, PoochMate has 250+ returning clients every month. â€œOur retail products have been received very well and the salon now attracts pet parents from all parts of Delhi. We are delighted when people call us to book appointments and are willing to travel hours because they trust the brand!â€, says Team PoochMate.
Pet grooming is a very nascent market, and PoochMate has always strived to set standards that define the level of quality service they provide.
